Shannon Sargent, Reg. Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner
Shannon decided early on that she wanted to help people. As documented in a home video, at age 6, she would place a sign on her bedroom door reading, “psychiatrist $0.25”, and would dole out words of wisdom such as, ‘smiling more so that other people smile back’ as a cure for her elderly uncle’s “sadness”.
After finishing high school, she earned a hockey scholarship for a Div. III college in upstate New York, where she intended to pursue her pre-med studies. Upon completion of her first year of general education classes, she decided that psychology and biology were her passions and finished her bachelor of arts degree with a psychology major and biology minor. She was puzzled by how her studies aimed to separate the body and mind viewing them as separate entities requiring separate treatments.
It was not until she discovered the holistic approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine, that her path became clear. In 2008, Shannon began her studies of acupuncture and herbology in Victoria, BC. As life would have it, she ended up transferring to the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences (ACOS) in Nelson, BC where she finished the 5-year Doctor of TCM program.
Shannon now finds herself as a registered practitioner of Chinese medicine using her skills in Acupuncture and moxibustion, Chinese herbology, cupping, Tui Na massage and nutrition to offer a holistic approach in this ancient healing tradition.
Her method is to meet people where they are at in their healing journey, and to support them in achieving their own optimal health and balance.
“When I started seeing Shannon my PMS symptoms were frustrating. I had intense cramping, crazy mood swings, and my periods were very heavy. While seeing Shannon regularly for treatments my symptoms improved significantly…her acupuncture and TCM treatments were a life saver!”
