Here in the Kootenay’s we live a fairly charmed life with beautiful scenery, small community, low crime rates, and shoes to wear if you forget yours at the Co-op. We have an abundance of healthy food, happy trees, and dogs that mingle at the doggy park. However, we still exist in the messiness of the real world here. There’s noises, sounds, smells, and other sensations that still pervade our peace in this little town. Why? Because it doesn’t matter where you live, life is messy.
And that’s not a bad thing.
As we exist and go about our daily life we create these little messes, get involved in others messes, and are affected by the messes around us. The question isn’t how we stop the messiness, it’s how we deal with it. Now don’t get me wrong – this isn’t a “life is perfect, I have inner peace and so should you” article. I am one of those people who are affected by the slightest of noises and any negative energy that comes within a 15 foot radius…it’s tiring some days. I often find that I am far more affected by noises than my clients or students, maybe because I want their experience to be great and so I want that “perfect situation” (did I mention I’m a Virgo?). I have, however, realized over time that these things (like noises) only cause you discomfort if you allow them to, and man have they caused me some serious discomfort.
I haven’t sorted out a solution and I sure haven’t reached a place where these things don’t bother me, but I have been playing with a method and I thought I’d share since there must be more of you out there. It reminds me a little of hynosis, without the hynotist or the hynotizing. Set an intention or mantra, or whatever it is you use, to let each noise, smell, touch, negative energy, etc create more relaxation in your body. Let these little things be your reminder to soften your shoulders and your eyes, to take a deep breath, and chill the heck out. Maybe you’ll find that instead of needing to escape those day to day things that grate on you, you’ll find that they help make your life a little more peaceful and awesome. Can’t hurt to try anyways.
Let me know you try this and if it works for you!
Big noisy, smelly, messy love to you!
